The Anna Solkowski Foundation
Preserving Polish Heritage & The Mechanical Art of the Typewriter
Our Inspiration: Anna "Buscha" Solkowski
Our foundation is built upon the legacy of Anna Solkowski (née Cieciel), who was affectionately known as Buscha (Polish for Grandma) by those who knew her best.
Anna and her twin brother were born on May 31, 1892, to their father, Josephus (37), and mother, Catharina (32).
She married Joseph Solkowski on January 10, 1915, in Chicago, Illinois. Together, they built a vibrant and enduring family, welcoming 11 children over the course of 19 years. Anna lived a remarkably full life deeply rooted in her heritage, passing away exactly on her 87th birthday—May 31, 1979—in Chicago. She rests peacefully in Justice, Illinois.
Polish Heritage Museum
The foundation operates a dedicated museum to celebrate and preserve Polish heritage. Our exhibits honor the rich traditions, immigrant journeys, and cultural milestones of families like the Solkowskis, ensuring that the history of our ancestors is never forgotten.
